The Heritage Research Center Comes to Life

On Wednesday, May 26, there was a meeting of those interested in the history and genealogy of Eastern Kings Prince Edward Island. There is a great deal of local history already done and stored in the homes of people from Dingwell's Mills to East Point. I'm sure that there are a lot of other homes with just as much passion for the topic but since we're focusing on Eastern Kings, Prince Edward Island, we're just looking at this area for now.

When the gathering began, the Center had this:

  • A location -- 95 Main Street, Souris (The Matthew and McLean Building)
  • A bookshelf
  • Six books
  • Two family genealogies
When the meeting ended we had a list of things we need:
  • A genealogy software program
  • At least one microfilm reader
  • At least one computer
  • Cemetery listings
  • A librarian
  • Membership to Ancestry.ca and related record databases
  • A couple of comfie and attractive soft chairs for researchers to relax in while they read
And we had things donated by the end of the meeting
  • Boxes of artifacts
  • A printer/scanner/copier
  • Family genealogies
Those attending were:
  • Bonnie Bertelsen
  • Judy Chaisson
  • Mab Ching
  • Sheila Eastman
  • Jean Jans
  • Goldie MacDonald
  • Helen MacDonald
  • Paulette Mullally
  • Joanne Reid
